is a collection of breathtaking hiking trails around the beautiful Ezousa Valley region in Paphos. The most significant trail is the stunning Ezousa Nature Trail, which starts from the Environmental Center (EPEIC). It passes by the ruins of the abandoned village of Moro Nero, St. Gennadios chapel, and the ancient water mill. Walkthrough the river to the picnic site, and enjoy the citrus orchards.
The Episkopi to Kallepia trail takes hikers from Episkopi to Kallepia village on the E4 trail, passing by the scenic Moro Nero. Hikers can expect to encounter lush flora, wildlife, and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Another popular trail featured in the “Ezousa Hiking Adventures” collection is the Village Walk in Episkopi, Paphos. This walk takes hikers through the quaint and charming Episkopi Village, known for its huge monolith rock. Visitors can expect to learn about the local culture and traditions while enjoying a scenic walk.
For those interested in walking amongst the fruit trees, the Orchard Walk by the Ezousa River is perfect. Hikers can expect to walk through orchards of oranges, lemons, and grapefruits while enjoying the stunning views of the peaceful Ezousa Valley. So, grab your hiking boots, and join them on an unforgettable adventure!
The level of challenge is assessed based on a combination of factors, primarily terrain difficulty, elevation changes, and overall physical demand. Here’s the breakdown:
Relatively Challenging: This level suggests a combination of challenging elements, including varied terrain, steeper elevation changes, and a longer duration. Participants should have a good level of fitness and be prepared for a more demanding hike.
Moderate: Hikes labeled as moderate may involve varied terrain, potentially steeper inclines, and longer durations. These trails require a moderate level of fitness and stamina.
Moderately Challenging: This designation indicates an above-moderate level of difficulty. The terrain has uneven paths of varied terrain and elevation changes, but it’s generally suitable for individuals with a reasonable level of fitness.
Hikers are welcome to do the hikes themselves starting from the environmental centre without the guide. The routes are clearly marked, and you can follow the signs to make your way through the trails. There are also maps available in the center to help you plan your route.
Additionally, the trails are designed to cater to all levels of ability and fitness, with some easier routes and others more challenging. While having a guide can provide valuable insight and knowledge, it is entirely possible to enjoy the experience without one. So, if you are up for a little adventure and exploration, grab a map, lace up your hiking boots, and hit the trails on your own. Just make sure to take the necessary safety precautions and be mindful of the environment.
Personal Responsibility: Accept the risk of hiking and take full responsibility for your actions.
Respect: Be aware of the people in your vicinity and act respectfully to other hikers and locals. Refrain from playing loud music.
Lighting fire is forbidden anywhere on the island. If have to burn some embers for a pic-nic please do so at the designated spots in the pic-nic site.
Environment: Be thoughtful about your presence and minimize your impact. The inadequate monitoring and enforcement of environmental legislation in Cyprus leaves ecosystems vulnerable to individuals’ behavior. Please remember that you are hosted at a place which is the home to various rare spaces of birds and wild life. Respect this fact and try not to disturb in any way. Avoid cutting flowers and plants.
Toilets: Try to use your home toilet or the public toilet in the center of the village before hitting the trek. If nature calls while on hike choose a location as far away from the trail as possible. Bury your waste and take all the paper with you. Do not bury toilet paper since animals can dig and expose it. Contrary to popular belief, toilet paper does not disintegrate easily.
Litter: Take your litter with you (that includes your cigarette butts) and if possible, collect some more from the already heavily littered Cyprus nature.
