Inside the Minthis & SPM Family Office Wine Night
Attending the Cyprus Wine Night at Minthis Resort this past Sunday was a great reminder of this distinction. Set against the stunning landscape of the Ezousa Valley wine region. The evening stepped away from the standard tasting format and leaned into something much more engaging: cultural storytelling.
With pambos.wine, my focus is on curating private cellars and bespoke wine tastings. I naturally pay close attention to how wine is presented. What stood out to me about this collaboration between SPM Family Office and Minthis was their shared, modern understanding of luxury hospitality.
Here is why the Cyprus Wine Night concept worked so well:
Authentic Wine Experiences as a Luxury Asset
Luxury hospitality is increasingly moving away from generic premium experiences and toward authenticity, local identity, and meaningful cultural immersion. Minthis Resort and SPM Family Office clearly understood this.
By showcasing Cypriot wineries, indigenous grape varieties, and local wine producers in the Plateia, the event highlighted the growing strength of Cyprus wine tourism while giving guests direct access to the stories behind the wines. In the early days, it was all about brand recognition and price. Exclusivity today is less about price tags and more about authenticity. By bringing local producers to share the craft behind indigenous Cypriot varieties, the organizers grounded the evening in real terroir.

It was a pleasure to arrive and be greeted by the next generation of Cypriot viticulture. Particularly the second-generation teams from Vassilikon and Tsangarides wineries. Seeing these young professionals presenting their family legacies firsthand underscores the evolving sophistication of local wine tourism. The event featured a diverse assembly of producers. From long-standing pillars like Fikardos and Vouni Panayia to emerging names such as Krasopoulin from mountainous Xiliatos Village, and Gialeli from Kathikas. A notable highlight was the showcase of Minthis’s own brand wines. Crafted by Tsangarides from the very vineyards surrounding the resort. Though the full story behind their production remains a topic for another time.
Cinematic Storytelling with “That’s Wine!”
Transitioning the event from the glass to the screen was a clever touch. Screening Serge Polivar’s documentary series, That’s Wine!, at the Minthis Amphitheater added a layer of context you rarely find at typical networking events. What often takes me hours to explain during wine lectures and tastings was captured masterfully in a single half-hour documentary screening. Polivar’s lens captures a philosophy I strongly agree with: wine is, at its core, a connector of people, culture, and history.
What moved me most throughout the evening was seeing multiple generations of Cyprus wine culture represented on film. Dr. Yiannis Ioannides of Ayia Mavri winery —arguably the oldest active winemaker on the island—shared his personal journey through almost a century of grape growing and winemaking. Explaining both his philosophy and his long-term vision for Cypriot wine. Father Evgenios, and his amazing assistant, represented Chrysorroyia Winery, one of the oldest surviving winery traditions in Cyprus.
At another moment, Demetris, the master winemaker of KEO. Reacting like a child discovering a new toy, and feeling blessed, every time he’s tasting a 100-year-old Commandaria.

Costas Tsiakkas brought his remarkable storytelling ability to the audience, connecting historical facts, wine culture, and Cypriot identity in a way that made the island’s wine heritage accessible and alive. Beside him was his son Orestis, representing the next generation and carrying the responsibility of continuing the family legacy.
That same tension between heritage and innovation was beautifully expressed by Marcos Zambartas, son of my friend, the late visionary Akis Zambartas, whose research is documented on helping revive many of the indigenous grape varieties now central to modern Cyprus wine storytelling. Marcos is also on track to become the first native Cypriot Master of Wine—a milestone that reflects the growing international maturity of Cyprus wine culture.

This approach transformed wine from a product into a narrative experience. For international guests, investors, entrepreneurs, and globally minded attendees, that type of authentic connection creates lasting emotional value.

The Art of Engaging High-Net-Worth Clients
